Numark Platinum FX Vs. Numark Mixtrack Pro FX: pros and cons, make your best choice!

There’s a fine line between knowing what you want and knowing what you need. For DJ controllers, the reality would be that it’s impossible to surf through hundreds of options. It’s best to know what you’re looking for in a controller first before you weigh in on the additional features that you want. Lucky for us, we have Numark to give us the perfect mix of both worlds.

Numark is regarded to be the biggest and one of the most respected companies in the DJ industry. They have been known to make just about everything, from CD decks to mixers to controls. More recently though, their main goal was focused on making high-quality DJ controllers and for this part, the Mixtrack Pro FX and the Platinum FX are two of their most well-known products. Both are made by the same company, and they also share a lot of common things. They are entry-level controls that are made for DJs who are just starting but want to move their careers fast. But even if they have that common denominator, they still have the twists that set them apart from each other.

Let’s discuss them below.

Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX

Introduced by the company as the fancier version among the two the Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX came simultaneously as the Mixtrack Pro FX. There aren’t many big changes between the two controllers in terms of how they are set up and made it has everything that made the Pro FX fantastic with additional tricks on its sleeve. It has a width of 21.1 inches, a height which is 2 inches, and a depth which is 9.7 inches. It is well-beloved by DJs in terms of its advantages when compared to Pro FX.

Pros:

Best Quality Overall

As mentioned, the Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX is the upgraded version of the Pro FX, which means that everything you want out of the latter, the former could give. From its additional features, tempo control, and great build, Platinum FX is just great overall.

4 Available Channels

Depending on how you want to upgrade your level as a novice DJ, 4 available channels could be beneficial to you if you plan to become an expert in DJing quickly. 4 channels can allow you to operate multiple things simultaneously, as you switch from channel 1 up to 4.

Onboard Display

Among the many favorite features of the Platinum FX is its onboard display. The onboard display includes checking the “beats per minute” (BPM) of the track, the channel you are currently using, and even how far you are in the track’s time, which can help your performance. If you’re a newbie in the DJ realm, this can immediately boost you to the top performance-wise. The onboard display isn’t available for Mixtrack Pro FX, so you can see why it’s an advantage for the former.

Full-Size Tempo Control

Tempo controls are important for a DJ controller to be useful and the more upgraded the tempo control is, the more it is convenient for the user. Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX has an upgraded and full-size tempo control so that the user can experience friendly yet incredibly satisfying transitions with less delay and falter.

Cons:

Expensive Price

While the edge for the price between the two is only quite small, it still has a few hundred you’re shelling out if you buy the Platinum FX than the Pro FX. But if you resonate with the product despite its expensive price, then you should opt-in on buying this instead.

Numark Mixtrack Pro FX

The less flashy among the two, but still capable of producing high-quality performances. Numark Mixtrack Pro FX is a user-friendly and budget-friendly DJ controller that shares almost all the qualities that can be found in its flashy counterpart. It shares the same size and build as Platinum FX: a width of 21.1 inches, 2-inch height, and 9.7 inches depth.

Pros:

Serato Lite DJ Software

Serato Software is often considered by many as among the greatest software for DJ controllers. The fact that Pro FX utilizes this makes it the better of the two. Serato is quite easy to use and performs better than most DJ software available.

Durable Build

Sharing the same quality with Platinum FX, Mixtrack Pro FX has a durable build that can guarantee its high-quality materials. It’s surprising to know that some of the expensive DJ controllers in music share the same materials used in Pro FX, only the latter is more affordable. It also lasts for several years, with the guarantee that you will use it with care.

Affordable Price

Let’s be honest, as much as we want to buy the Platinum FX, its price is a no-go to those who want to buy cheap DJ controllers (with quality of course!). With that in mind, you’re not missing out on a lot of features if you go for Pro FX. And take note that for its cheap price, you’re more than getting what you want.

Cons:

No Onboard Display

Perhaps one of the most significant disadvantages, when you pick Pro FX over Platinum FX, is the onboard display. This tool is quite useful because it comes with a lot of features that are a rarity. If you pick a controller that has this, it’s hard to go back from basics and you feel like a pro DJ.

Not a Serato DJ Pro Software User

While it does use Serato as software, it’s not the best version. Serato DJ Pro Software is home to lots of features and tools that are fantastic for newbie DJs who want to expand their skills further.

2 Channels

Another con for Pro FX would be that it only has 2 channels, in contrast to Platinum FX which has 4. This may be a minor issue, but if you’re looking for something that can enhance your multitasking skills to the max, it’s better to opt for more channels instead of the lesser ones.

Takeaway

Overall, you can consider yourself a winner if you can afford what Numark has to offer. With its affordability as well as its amazing features, you’re getting more than what any DJ companies have to offer – all in just one product.
